Both Google and Microsoft (Bing) announced last Wednesday that they will begin to integrate Twitter messages into search result pages. Microsoft also said that Bing would soon integrate Facebook updates, but only those made public by account holders. Twitter updates, unless locked by the user, are presumed to be public.

Now, every Twitter update will be indexed in real-time, keeping the social media aspect of worldwide conversations on the Web.

Microsoft executive, Yusuf Mehdi, gave a demo at the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco of how Twitter updates (also called “tweets”) would be integrated into search results for Bing. Until now, Bing had only indexed tweets from major celebrities and/or prominent journalists.

A couple of weeks ago, Yelp released a new feature that allows users to share Yelp reviews with Facebook and Twitter. Yelp is a local business directory that lets your customers rate and review your business.

What does this mean for you?

Well, if your business has been added to Yelp (either by you or a customer), you’ll get more coverage for your company. Basically, any user who adds a review on Yelp has the ability to post that same review on their Facebook and/or Twitter profiles. And as you know, the more reviews you have (especially the positive ones!) the better, as most of them add a link back to your site. Plus, it can provide good word-of-mouth advertising for your brand or company.

Want more information about Yelp reviews for Facebook and Twitter? Check out the Official Yelp Blog!
