The most recent version of LinkedIn also has video functionality, which allows users to add video and rich video sources to their profile.

Third-Tier Connections
LinkedIn has provided more privacy by only allowing users to invite third-tier connections or individuals they with no connections if they know their name.

Group Message Systems
LinkedIn has also changed their group messages system. Users can only send group messages to individuals in a specific group and no longer to individuals in search results. LinkedIn hopes this will reduce spam and allow users to concentrate on more important content.

Sponsored Stories takes friends’ actions, such as an action with a Facebook app or mobile check-in, and turns them into a promotion for the company. Sponsored Stories is “a way for marketers to sponsor activities that happen throughout the News Feed,” Facebook Product Marketing Lead Jim Squires told Mashable.

Squires also provided a hypothetical example of a store like Whole Foods, who wishes to increase its exposure, now having the ability to pay to have a percentage of Whole Foods check-ins featured in Sponsored Stories in the right-side column of a user’s Facebook page. Sponsored Stories would not show Whole Foods content directly but rather a user’s friends interactions with Whole Foods. “The advertiser is not controlling the message; it’s about actions,” Squires said.

Although Bing is still in the process of rolling out this feature, a preview image on the Bing blog shows how displaying the Facebook ‘Like’ button may provide a new visual indicator on a page a draw the searcher’s attention to a different section of the search page.

The implied concept of this feature is that social networking in Phoenix now influences where Web sites will rank in search results. This does not mean that social networking is now the major driving factor of Bing’s search results or even one of the major factors it simply means that Bing does value social networking in Phoenix in terms of search results.
