Video is a Must for Competitive SEO

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

Within the last year, video has grown from a “frill” some companies include on their Web sites, to an essential and competitive differentiator that drives search engine optimization (SEO) and increases brand recognition. Many companies, in the know, have already embraced this shift and already implementing video as a central part of their online offerings.

Google integrated video into its universal search offering in 2007 and ever since Web sites featuring videos have gained an SEO advantage. When a business integrates relevant videos that match the Web site’s content, search engines, such as Google, find and index the video within the Web site’s context. This improves the overall search rankings and video search rankings as it relates to your business’ keywords.

Search appears to be how most users of the Internet are finding video today and this trend is expected to continue in the future. Furthermore, video appears to pass the test when it comes to overall conversion. According to one survey, roughly 80 percent of users view an entire video and 1 out of 4 click to purchase products, which drives overall revenue.

Business should do more then simply embed videos with their Web sites. In order to harvest videos’ full potential they should be spread across the entire Web site. For example, a retail business selling 10,000 products online should cover the entire online catalog with video on each page. This way, there are videos that match keywords for specific products and target consumers that are most likely to search for those keywords.

In the past videos were nice to have on a Web site. However, in the past year the have become a must-have for any business that is serious about SEO and search engine rankings.

Advertising and Marketing: The Growing Importance of Online Video

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

Despite the state of the economy today and in 2008, online sales still totaled over $25 billion last year. What are these online buyers looking for, how do you grab their attention, and keep it? The answer: Visually.

No, we’re not talking about graphic design (although that is a very important part of your website). We’re actually talking about one of the best marketing and advertising tools available: video. Online videos are instant. They are attention-grabbing and can show off your product or service better than any word or image ever could.

Video watching by website visitors increased by 40% last year. You can’t afford to miss out! Plus, so few online sites are using video advertising, there’s a huge opportunity for you to get a step ahead of your competition.

You might be hesitant to get into video advertising, but there is no need to worry. It isn’t nearly as costly or time consuming as you might think. You don’t need to have a high-end video production to market your products or services. You can buy something like the Flip video camera for less than $200. The quality is perfect for uploading to sites like YouTube, MySpace and Facebook where billions of potential customers can watch.

We can optimize and share these videos with video search engines around the web and expand the influence of your content and traffic to your website. Video is hot and video links are quickly taking top spots in the search engine results.

Are You Taking Advantage of Google’s Universal Search?

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

It’s been about 2 years since Google introduced Universal Search, and its impact on search results is still being felt today.

Google Universal Search displays products, videos, images, maps, ads, blogs, news, books and natural results (of course) — all on one page. If you hadn’t noticed, Google’s search results are getting pretty clogged up, making it even harder to rank on the first page!

Marketers have always had about a 60% better chance of getting a click if they’re listed in both paid and natural search results. Are you taking advantage of both? If you aren’t, it’s time you did.

Here are some tips that will help you take advantage of Google Universal Search:

  1. Use target keywords to name all of your images and keyword-centered anchor text. Also include keywords in captions, and make sure your robots.txt file can spider your images.
  2. If you don’t already have a video, then create one. A simple how-to or instructional video can be easily optimized by keyword-centric tagging.
  3. If you have an address make sure it’s listed in the local section and link the listing to your site using keyword-targeted anchor text.
  4. Get all of your blogs and news listed by sending out press releases on a regular basis. We recommend PRWeb for online distribution. Include targeted keywords throughout your releases and make sure any images have keyword-centric alt tags attached to them.
