Bit.ly Launches Search Platform & Reputation Monitoring For Shortened Links

The internet’s most popular URL shortening service, Bit.ly, just announced that they are not only in the business of shortening over 80 million URLs per day (half of all shortened URLs), but they are now crawling and classifying each shortened link backed by their new social search platform.

The new social search powered reputation management function indexes sites that are the most popular, highly distributed sites that is searchable and viewable by users. For any given search query, Bit.ly will display the stories they predict will get the most attention within the next 24 hours and then use their own analytics to refine the predictions.

While most other social search platforms simply track “shares” or “likes”, Bit.ly has the ability to show the most “frequently clicked” results as well, which is the most valuable measure of engagement.
