Yahoo Tests Bing Powered Results
Yahoo recently sent out an email to address some topics that have been on advertisers’ minds regarding the organic Yahoo-to-Bing transition. The email covered typical questions and provides some tips and it also adds some additional insight into testing and launch dates.
We already know that Yahoo has been testing Bing powered search results “offline” but on Thursday, June 15, for what is believed to be the first time, Yahoo confirmed the testing of Bing powered results in their live search results. According to the E-mail:
Though much of our testing is already happening offline, this month we’ll also test the delivery of organic and paid search results provided by Microsoft on live Yahoo! traffic.
Yahoo will begin testing both paid and organic search results this month on live Yahoo search queries. Yahoo is quoted as saying “testing volumes will fluctuate during this period” and that they will keep “paid search volume in particular kept low,” so they do not impact pay-per-click advertisers.
Yahoo is expected to switch to Bing powered search results sometime in August or September if testing goes well. Yahoo has played up the importance of this switch stating that according to comScore, Bing will soon power 30 percent of global search queries both paid and organic.
