AdGooroo Report Says Economic Recession Is Not Affecting Search

The economic recession isn’t dramatically affecting search advertising, according to the latest Mid-Quarter Search Engine Update from AdGooroo. The AdGooroo report shows that page-one advertising activity on all three top search engines (Google, Yahoo!, MSN) was up during the first two months of the fourth quarter. Google counts were up about 54.9%, Yahoo around 11.2% and Microsoft up 29.6%.

Some are speculating that the uptick is due to the time of year, with a large part due to increased holiday spending online.  Many search advertisers are running holiday campaigns across major search engines.  In addition, Google has increased the number of ads they are displaying per page (implemented this quarter) and that may be affecting their ad activity.

AdGooroo also reports that Microsoft has made a huge gain on second-place Yahoo! in terms of search activity.  Microsoft increased its advertiser share from 11.5% in the third quarter to about 15.8% in the forth – that’s a 37% increase. Yahoo! currently stands at 22.1% and Google leads the pack with 80.3%.
